Fire Safety Tips
The Best Emergency Is the One That Never Happens.
A few simple steps can make a major difference in protecting your family and your home.
SMOKE ALARMS
Make sure smoke alarms are installed throughout your home and test them regularly.
Remember:Hear the alarm?
Get out.
Never ignore a sounding smoke alarm.
HAVE A HOME ESCAPE PLAN
Every household should have an escape plan.
Make sure everyone knows:
-
Two ways out of important areas of the home when possible.
-
Where to meet outside.
-
How to call 911.
-
What to do if smoke blocks an exit.
Practice your escape plan with your entire household.
CARBON MONOXIDE SAFETY
Carbon monoxide is an invisible, odorless gas that can be dangerous.
Install carbon monoxide alarms according to manufacturer recommendations and know the warning signs of a possible carbon monoxide emergency.
If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, leave the building and call 911 from a safe location.
KEEP FLAMMABLE MATERIALS AWAY FROM HEAT
Store combustible and flammable materials safely and away from heat sources.
Always follow manufacturer instructions for appliances, heating equipment, and other potentially hazardous materials.
CALL 911
If you have an emergency, call 911.
Do not delay calling because you're unsure whether the situation is serious enough.
When seconds matter, early notification can make a difference.
